Ashley Wendel, MA, CMC, PDC

Client and Business Focus:

I focus on working with physician leaders who are looking for tools and structure to help them more expertly manage change and build “agility” in themselves and/or their health organizations.

In my one-on-one executive coaching work, I utilize structured, evidence-based approaches to each individual’s professional challenges. Clients may work with me to address a variety of challenges, including:

  • Having trouble dealing with resistant, reactive, or “noncompliant” colleagues
  • Wanting or needing to figure out better ways to communicate with, lead, or motivate their clinical staff
  • Wanting to enhance their leadership or business management skills if they’re facing transition to a new or more demanding role
I also focus on organizational consulting work, providing physician leaders with the tools they need to build their group’s agility within a structured, time-bound program. Interventions may focus on:
  • Helping a physician leader “bridge the gap” between the executive team’s strategy/vision and the daily practice of the frontline staff
  • Aiding a physician leader who is tasked with implementing a new initiative in separate or disconnected sites that have not been kept “in the loop” with strategic planning, manage anticipated resistance
  • Working with an executive who wants to build higher levels of responsiveness and flexibility in their groups, in anticipation of a new program on the horizon
  • Advising a physician-executive who recognizes the need for “Agility”, and wants to implement a strategic plan to enhance this competency in their group

Background and Experience:

I came to this work by way of a few different fields - starting my professional life with graduate study and work in Clinical Psychology (specifically Behavioral Medicine), and then by moving into the fast-paced world of change management consulting with high-technology companies during the extremely tumultuous late-90's and through the economic downturn after 9/11 and early 2000s.

I came to physician-executive coaching after I realized that 1) I really did want to spend more time working one-on-one with individuals, and 2) that returning back to healthcare was my passion. I had started coaching informally with many of my management consulting clients, and I realized that it was a "natural fit" for me - and also an excellent bridge between the clinical/diagnostic skills that I had practiced in psychology, and the strategic, action-oriented planning that made up my consulting work with Accenture.

I experienced and built skills in two very different worlds, which I utilize every day in my work with health care physican-executives and organizations. I have spent the last 15 years building my toolkit, which takes the best of what I used successfully in the corporate world and augments it to address the unique needs of health care organizations. I am more than happy to share this collection of "best practices" with you in our work together.

Choosing the right executive coach or organizational consultant is a critical decision! I invite you to visit www.highagilityhealthcare to see more about what I do, and what makes me uniquely qualified to consult with/coach you or your health organization.

Education and Credentials:

From my time with the management consulting firm Accenture I have over 500 hours of professional training / advanced education in organizational change management, strategic communication, new process implementation, leadership development, culture change, project management, and human performance intervention design and development.
